Survival
What is survival? That is a deep question with
no simple answer. There are so many associated
questions. One can ask why should one survive? Why
would anyone want to survive? The superficial question
is, how does one survive?
A very deep philosophical question stemming
back to the ancient Greeks, and rephrased in
convenient terminology for now, follows. If one discovered one was the
last living human in the universe, would one even want to continue
living. That question was first asked of RM Rotcod by a dear Jamaican-
American best friend during a long road trip. His name was Tyrone and
he had an amazing raucous,
laughing, and outgoing personality on the surface. In
truth, he was a hyperintelligent deep-thinking man,
with a dark side to him. That question came up during
a long road trip. It surprised Rotcod and took Rotcod
10-years to finally arrive at an answer Rotcod trusted
in. Rotcod answers that questions of Tyrone, in the
Mars Doctor.
So, in conclusion, survival is the propensity to
continue living in conditions expected to cause death.
That act of surviving might require immense
physical effort, massive emotional durability, and
incredible ingenuity to find solutions for seemingly
impossible problems. The inner strength and
determination to survive can only be rooted in finding
a superior motivation to live. To simply accept
apparent inevitable death is an easy option. The desire
to find a road to survival is most strongly driven when
the endangered persons wish to survive for the
benefit of others than themselves. That is when
humanity reaches its highest and most noble levels.
The novel “The Mars Doctor”, is in its
entirety a struggle for the Marsnauts to physically
survive. For some of those astronauts they
additionally have to survive emotional challenges of a
vile mature. All questions on survival are answered in
the story. It is inspiring. The humans have to lift
themselves to normally impossible levels that are
arguably divine in form. The story shows side by side
the worst and the best faces of mankind. All readers
will be stronger in their own lives afterwards. Life
itself, finds lofty meanings.
